Pain Recovery

With over 10 years of experience as a physiotherapist, I am passionate about empowering individuals to navigate persistent pain through education, movement, mindfulness, and holistic health coaching. I believe that understanding your pain is a powerful step toward reclaiming your health and well-being.

In my role facilitating group medical visits alongside Dr. Alexander, I aim to create a supportive environment where participants can learn about the science of pain, explore effective movement strategies, and develop practical tools for improving sleep, nutrition, and overall wellness. My approach blends evidence-based knowledge with a deep respect for each person’s unique story and goals. Together, we’ll build skills and habits that promote positive, sustainable change.

Over the course of my career, my practice has evolved to focus on pelvic health and supporting folks facing chronic or persistent pain. My care philosophy is rooted in a whole-body, trauma-informed approach that emphasizes education, exercise, functional movement, and health coaching.

As a mother of two, I understand the challenges of balancing personal health with life’s demands. My own journey through pelvic health recovery postpartum and healing from a significant back injury has deeply shaped my practice and given me a unique perspective on the physical and emotional challenges of recovery. These experiences have strengthened my empathy and commitment to helping others regain their confidence and resilience.

Outside of work, I find joy in outdoor adventures with my family, running, swimming, dancing, and savoring a great cup of (decaf) coffee. I believe in the power of small, intentional actions to create meaningful change—and I’m here to guide and support you on your journey to living well with pain.

I’m a Pain Medicine specialist dedicated to helping people better understand and manage their pain. My work focuses on interventional pain management, innovative interdisciplinary care models, and improving pain science education.

After completing my primary specialty training in Emergency Medicine, I spent nearly a decade working in a variety of hospitals, from tertiary care trauma centers to rural Emergency Departments. Through this experience, I witnessed the widespread prevalence of chronic pain and the challenges patients faced in accessing comprehensive, long-term management. Along the way, my interest in pain medicine grew through daily conversations with my wife, Hayley, a physiotherapist passionate about helping people with chronic pain. That curiosity snowballed until I took the leap to pursue subspecialty training in Pain Medicine through UBC. While I discovered this field mid-career, it has become an incredibly rewarding and exciting new passion.

Reducing barriers to healthcare and education has always been at the heart of my work. As a Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC, I’m focused on expanding access to pain education, making it easier for patients across the province to get the knowledge and support they need.
